It is that time of the year, when every television channel and streaming service is filled to bursting with one thing: Christmas films. These always range from the sublime classics, such as Home Alone or Noelle (no, I won’t be taking discussion on those), to the ridiculous, saccharine pap of the Hallmark movies.
I should make clear here, I am not complaining about any of this. Two years ago I made it my mission to watch a Christmas film every day in December and created my own Festive Film Advent Calendar, and ever since then S and I have been hooked on Christmas films, especially the very silly ones.
However, the more of these I watch, the more clear it becomes that while some of them are just the same film repackaged, even the best ones use and re-use a number of comfortable tropes which leave you in no doubt as to the season or sentiment they are invoking.
So, to add a little extra amusement to your festive flick viewing, I offer this game for this Christmas season: Christmas Movie Bingo.
Below is you cut-out-and-keep card of holiday film clichés. See how many you can find in any given film…and make sure to let me know any I have missed out.

Happy watching. And let me know which films fill out the most of your bingo card this year.
