Is Riverdale’s Jughead a fashion icon?

You know that feeling when a TV character dresses like you? No, you read that right. We are all well aware of people dressing like TV or film characters. Some of us have probably even done it ourselves. I, for one, spent an age trying to recreate Daniel Craig’s blue three-piece suit look from the end of Casino Royale, and I went through a phase of modelling much of my look off White Collar’s Neal Caffrey a few years back.

But I recently found the opposite, I discovered there is a TV character who dresses like me and, with almost crushing inevitability, does it better.

To provide some context, S was recently laid low with a virus and during her convalescence spent many hours curled up on the sofa binge-watching Riverdale. The Archie Comics-inspired TV series follows a group of teens solving increasingly dark and supernatural mysteries in the eponymous Riverdale, and it serves as a sister show to The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which we demolished when it was released.

During the course of her watching, S decided that she was more impressed by Jughead, the sardonic, best friend, who serves as the show’s narrator, than Archie, the flame-haired protagonist who is at one point described as having “the physique of a Seventies porn star”.

Half way through Season 2, S put her finger on why this might be: Jughead stole my look.

My personal attire ranges from the extremes of double-breasted suits to jeans, leather jackets and beanies and it is this second look which Forsythe Pendleton Jones III, or Jughead to you and I, wears as his daily uniform for the first few years of the show. So here are a few choice looks for those of you seeking a bit of laid-back inspiration during the springtime showers. All you need is a pair of slim dark jeans, some boots,  a leather jacket and a hat. Make sure the jacket is not too loose or long in the body and arms, and tilt the hat back.
